19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Success also means he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to create a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
